‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ Global Box Office Collections Report

Avatar 2 Crosses $1.4B At Global Box Office Office

“Avatar: The Way of Water” seems to have had a great New Year’s weekend. James Cameron’s latest film continues to dominate at the box office this New Year’s weekend.

The movie reportedly grossed $186.7 million from 52 international markets over the weekend. Its weekend performance brought the total up to est. $1.379 billion worldwide.

The top three foreign markets for the movie are China, with $152.8 million, $95.1 million in France, and $74.9 million in South Korea.

Though a long-awaited sequel to the highest-grossing film of all time is doing good, it fell short of initial box-office expectations during its debut.

The film collected just $134 million domestically, suddenly of the $175 million that industry analysts had predicted and just under the $135 million to $150 million range that Disney had forecast.

However, the Avatar box office collection was the opposite of its sequel. Released in December 2009, Avatar broke multiple box office records in various markets.

The film became the highest-grossing movie and the fastest to gross $1 billion through $2.5 billion worldwide. Avatar is also the highest-grossing movie in history so far.

“Avatar: The Way Of Water” follows Jake Sully and Neytiri as they have formed a family and are doing everything to stay together.

However, they must leave their home and explore the regions of Pandora. When an ancient threat resurfaces, Jake must fight a brutal war against the humans.
