A tragic accident occurred on Sunday night in Australia’s wine country, when a bus carrying wedding guests rolled over on a foggy road, killing 10 people and injuring 25 others. The driver of the bus, Brett Button, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of dangerous and negligent driving, according to a police statement.

The bus was returning from a wedding at the Wandin Estate Winery in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, north of Sydney. The crash happened just after 11:30 p.m. at a roundabout on Wine Country Drive in the town of Greta. Police said the cause of the accident was still under investigation and that seatbelt use would be scrutinized.

One of the wedding guests told Seven News that it had been a “nice day and a fairytale wedding” before the tragedy struck. Another witness, who drove past the scene, said the fog was so heavy that she could barely see the emergency vehicles.

Of the 25 people injured, one was in critical condition and several others remained in hospitals, the state government said. The conditions of the others were described as stable. No children were believed to be involved in the crash.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed his condolences to the victims and their families and thanked the first responders for their efforts. He said the government would provide support to those affected by the “cruel and sad and unfair” incident.

“This is a tragedy that has touched the hearts of all Australians,” said Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those who have been lost.”
